My Home Lab

My home lab is separated into three networks that are easy to distinguish at a glance. Using the following three IP ranges that are reserved by IANA for private use:

  • WAN: 192.168.X.X
  • LAN: 10.X.X.X
  • IoT: 172.16.X.X

The IoT network, which is mostly wireless devices, connects to a TP-Link Archer A7. That has had OpenWrt firmware flashed onto it, to allow VLAN tagged traffic on specific SSIDs. These three networks can communicate to each other, only when necessary, through a virtualized router running pfSense. Which uses another visualized server on the LAN to handle DNS. It runs PiHole to filter tracking and ads on the network level.
